Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I need to bring any special gear? No, virtually everything you need to participate in each adventure will be provided: climbing equipment, harnesses, flight gear, etc. You should bring personal items, weather-appropriate clothing, and hiking shoes. (Ask your Ultimate 5 consultant for recommendations about personal gear.)

  2. I’ve never rock climbed or rappelled before. Would this stop me from enjoying the Ultimate 5 Adventures? Absolutely not! Very few of our clients have any rock climbing or rappelling experience. Our guides are trained to provide the necessary instruction to ensure your comfort and enjoyment. Moreover, one of the beautiful things about Pine Canyon, Angels Landing, and the Narrows is the fact that they are world-class outdoor adventures that, when done in the company of our experienced guides and with our gear, can be successfully completed even by rookies.

  3. Same question with skydiving or aerobatic flying. I’ve never done it. Will it still be fun? There’s a reason skydiving is considered one of the greatest adventures in the world. For sheer excitement, few things can come even close. Still, tandem skydiving allows a complete novice to experience the thrill of almost 60 seconds of freefall without any of the dangers of a solo jump. As for the combat flying, the entire program is designed for those who have never flown before. It is always one of our most popular adventures.

  4. Tell me more about the air-to-air adventures. You have the choice of flying in a Soviet Union-made Fighter/Interceptor or the Marchetti SF 260, one of the newest and most maneuverable aircraft in the world. Both 45-minute sorties include basic aerobatics, air-to-air combat maneuvers, and a short hop through portions of the Grand Canyon (when conditions permit).

  5. Is it dangerous? Of course it is. Rappelling, skydiving, simulated combat flying, driving an Indy race car, military challenge courses—all of these are dangerous and exciting, which is the main reason a vast majority of the population will never experience the thrill of the Ultimate 5. There are times when your courage is going to be challenged. There are times when we’re going to have to work as a team to safely see it through. But the satisfaction of the challenge is half of the fun. So yes, Ultimate 5 participants need to understand they are signing up to participate in inherently dangerous activities. And while Ultimate 5 provides guidance, basic training and equipment, always placing safety as our number one priority, the risks of these adventures cannot be entirely mitigated.

  6. Do I need to be in good physical condition to participate? Some of the hiking is fairly strenuous. Angels Landing is the most difficult. It covers 5 miles, with an ascent of almost 1,500 feet, and takes between 3-4 hours—depending on how long you want to stay at the top of the Landing to take in some of the most amazing views in the world. If you think that might be too much for you, the hike up Zion Narrows is flat and safe and as short as an hour if you choose. Pine Canyon is less than 2 miles and generally downhill, but the last portion of the trail is bouldered. The Ropes Course is mentally challenging, but physically relatively easy. Finally, the simulated combat sortie will expose you to high-G maneuvers which can be physically and mentally straining. Keep in mind, however that each activity is taken at a very comfortable pace and our guides will do everything they can to adjust to your comfort level. While all participants need to be in good physical condition, none of the adventures are overly strenuous.

  7. How many people will be in my group? To assure your safety and comfort as well as the personal attention you deserve, we limit the number of participants in each group to ten.

  8. How early do I need to complete my registration to reserve my place? The Ultimate 5 adventures are incredibly popular. Please don’t wait to register. Each week fills very quickly, normally many months in advance.

  9. Will the accommodations be to my liking? The Grand America is Salt Lake City’s newest Five-Star hotel. Your facilities at Zion National Park include a beautiful hotel set among some of the most stunning landscapes in the West. The Bellagio is one of Las Vegas’s premier hotel casinos. Taken together, we are certain the accommodations will meet your standards of excellence.

  10. What about air transportation to Salt Lake City? Participants need to make their own flight reservations. Normally, you will fly into Salt Lake City and fly out of Las Vegas; but please check with your personal Ultimate 5 consultant before booking your reservation. Also, we highly recommend booking a flight which will allow you to change your scheduled departure date. Although it rarely happens, weather may force us to modify our schedule, which may require an extra day or two.

  11. Do I need to make any arrangements for ground transportation? No, a member of your Ultimate 5 team will pick you up at the airport and take you to the hotel. All ground transportation between each adventure is also provided.

  12. I’m still a little hesitant. Are you sure I’ll have fun? Are you kidding? You’re about to experience the most incredible week of your life! It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from, how old you are (as long as you’re 18 or older), or anything else. Everything about the Ultimate 5 is designed to ensure you have an unbelievable adventure. Give us a week and we’ll guarantee you enough memories (and bragging rights) to last a lifetime.

  13. How do I register? To ensure quality, registration must be done over the telephone with one of our Ultimate 5 consultants. (See registration page.)

  14. What about payment? To hold your reservation, half of the registration fee is required at the time of registration. The remaining balance is due 45 days prior to the week of departure. Sorry, no refunds.

  15. How do I pay for my adventures? We gladly accept personal checks, cashiers checks, cash, or credit cards. The security of your credit card information is guaranteed.

Disclaimer: Safety is always our number one priority. However, all of the activities included in the Ultimate 5 Lifetime Adventures are inherently dangerous. Not everyone is capable of completing these adventures. Participants proceed with each activity at their own risk. Safety considerations may also require a change or delay in the proposed schedule of activities. Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
